The basics of true copy attestation
An attested true copy or certified true copy is the legal term that is used to describe a copy of the original document stating that the copy in question is a true copy of the primary document. The evidence that this is a true copy is the certificate or confirmation letter attached to it provided by government institutes.
Attested copies are often confused with notary copies. Notary copies are issued only by the state-commissioned by the public notary whereas attestation can be done by anyone. This is why attested copies are cheaper and easily available as compared to notary copies which are more expensive to acquire.
A certified copy is a suitable way of submitting a copy of original documents to different departments and institutes. They are usually required by the court, embassies, banks, and private companies for legal and commercial purposes such as for passport, utility bills or employment letters, etc. This ensures that the original documents are with you and avoids the risk of misplacing the original documents.
The attested copy can only be signed by an authorized person appointed by the person or organization asking for it. Each country has a different rule as to who is authorized to sign it. In most countries, the said person is nominated by the state’s legislature to do it such as a court clerk or solicitor while in some countries; true copy attestation Dubai can be done by a post office staff.
To sign an attested copy, it is necessary for the person to be personally present before the authorized person such as a lawyer to verify the identity of the said person. In some countries like UAE, witnesses’ signature is also required to sign the certified copy.
A copy of the primary document used for international purposes has to be in notarized form instead of a certified form. Sometimes, it is required to follow some additional set of special rules depending upon the organization and country.
Sometimes, the primary document is required to be translated. For example, an Italian birth certificate has to be translated into English. The translation is an important matter and needs to be translated by a professional. In this case, an additional accuracy certificate provided by the professional translator is also required along with it. This accuracy certificate, translated document, and primary document are photocopied in the form of an attested copy.
